Sunstone

Rare and difficult to find, Sunstone is a naturally occurring sparkly and flashing orange-red semi-precious gemstone. Sometimes called "Aventurine Orthoclase" or "Heliolite".

Promotes leadership, self-worth, good luck, optimism, desire for action; anti-depressant.  Stimulates self-healing powers. 

Mystical Properties:

  • Sunstone is thought to strengthen the life force, bring luck, instill optimism and increase strength and vitality.
  • Used by the Canadian Indians in Medicine rituals to help the spirit guides access the healing power of the Sun. When contact with the spirit guides was successful, the stone was said to glow a bright golden.
  • The Greeks used it on goblets to prevent poisoning. They believed Sunstone improved the life force, increased vitality and brought plenty to any who wore it.
  • In India, the stone was used to protect the wearer from destructive forces.
  • In Astrology, the Sun is called the "Lesser Beneficent" and rules the 5th house of Love & Romance. Sunstone, ruled by the Sun and a gemstone of Leo, is thought to bring luck and romance to the wearer.
  • It is said to work well with the 3rd (Naval) and 4th (Heart) Chakras.
  • The State gemstone of Oregon.

Healing Properties: Helpful to the liver and kidneys. Aids digestion. Reduces acid. Cartilage problems and rheumatism.

Scientific Properties: Composed of plagioclase feldspar. The reflections of light are caused by inclusions of hematite or goethite within the stone.

Famous localities include Plush, Oregon. 6-7 on the Moh's Hardness Scale.
