Picture Jasper

An opaque gemstone, often displaying vistas, pictures and patterns. Most commonly yellow to brown in color.  One of the more beautiful varieties is “Landscape”.

  • Trickles in energy like fine beach sand that sparkles in the sun. Spreads soothing, quieting energy. Clears the throat and lungs. Absorbs disharmony like sand placed on an oil spill. It enhances visualization.
  • Proportion, harmony, creative visualization, business pursuits.

  • Mystics consider Picture Jasper to contain vistas and messages from the past. It is said to improve grounding and creativity.
  • Picture Jasper is considered a major gemstone of Earth consciousness, of responsibility, caring for and saving our planet. It is thought to improve the relationship between mankind and nature. Promotes environmental consciousness.
  • Yellow and brown Jaspers in general, are used to "clear the mind", while brown Jasper is thought to be centering. Therefore this gemstone is considered helpful to those who would like the ability to concentrate and be centered.
  • Considered a gemstone of Leo.

Healing Properties: Eye problems.

Scientific Properties: Composed of Silicon Dioxide. Picture Jasper is often sandstone, the coloring coming from Iron Oxides that have migrated through the sandstone in interesting shapes and forms. A famous locale known for providing some of the most beautiful Picture Jasper can be found in Biggs, Oregon. Rarely blue, then called "Biggs Blue".
