Ocean Jasper

Ocean Jasper is a new gemstone, found in only one spot in the world, off the coast of Marovato, Madagascar. Sometimes referred to as "Orbicular Jasper", -- really fossilized coral. Because of the beauty and limited availability, this gemstone is very likely to appreciate in value.

The rhyolitic spheres or orbs come in an astonishing array of colors and color combinations. The background can be white, pink, green, red, yellow or rarely even blue or lavender. Can only be seen and collected from at low tide. This remote area has no roads so the material must be transported to civilization by boat. Produced from only one mine near Marovato.

  • Very soothing and helps to love one's self as well as others. Healing of the emotions and brings peace of mind. Helps with acceptance of responsibility and increases patience. Mystical Properties: Ocean Jasper can only be mined at low-tide. Because it is mined in the shallow ocean, it is sometimes mentioned with regard to Atlantis.

Called "Snake Agate" by Madagascar natives.

Scientific Properties: Composed of Silicon Dioxide (quartz) which has replaced the coral and matrix rock making this a fine, hard gemstone. Trace minerals provide the beautiful and diverse coloring.

Found in only one locale in the world, Northwest Madagascar. Hardness: 6.5 - 7.0 on the Moh's Hardness Scale.
