Carnelian
A form of translucent reddish-orange to red agate, also known as Mecca stone, Pigeon Blood Agate, Sardoine, Cornelian. The name is most commonly believed to be derived from the Latin "carne," meaning flesh. It is sometimes referred to as "Cornelian" rather than "Carnelian" as others attribute the name to the Latin "cor," meaning heart.
- This stone is useful for understanding one's rhythms and cycles and it is said that if it is worn in a pouch around the neck by women during menstrual periods - it will help to ease the stomach cramps felt at that time.

- Carnelian is an important gemstone in opening a closed 2nd Chakra (Sacral). Natural healers use Carnelian to quell anger, clear negative energy and sorrow (that's usually the source of anger). It is used to protect against rage and fear.
- An amulet of carnelian carved with a man bearing a sword is said to provide protection from storms, lightning, and spells.
- The national gemstone of Norway-Sweden.
- Hebrews associate the gemstone with Thursday and children born on that day.
Healing Properties: Claims many healing properties including preventing fevers, the ability to increase the strength and glibness of speech. Also thought to aid with blood problems. An amulet with a rich man holding some beautiful object, carved of carnelian, is said to be powerful in staunching the flow of blood.
Scientific Properties: Composed of Silicon Dioxide (Quartz). Chalcedony with red hues related to iron oxides. Found commonly around the world. Hardness: 6.5-7.0 on the Moh's Hardness Scale.
